HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS READY FOR PRESCHOOL?

Family preparing for school with backpacks near a car.

Starting preschool is a big milestone for both children and parents. If you're wondering whether your little one is ready, you're not alone. The good news is that there isn't a "perfect" age or checklist every child must meet before starting.

At TCLA, we've welcomed hundreds of children, each with their own personality, pace and strengths. Our experienced teachers understand that every child develops differently, and we're here to help make the transition a positive one.

Signs Your Child May Be Ready

Every child is unique, but many children are ready for preschool if they begin showing some of these signs:

Curious About the World

Your child enjoys exploring, asking questions, looking at books, building with blocks or discovering new things around them.

Enjoys Being Around Other Children

They show an interest in playing alongside or interacting with other children, even if they're still learning how to share and take turns.

Can Separate From Parents (or Is Beginning To)

It's completely normal for children to feel anxious at first. What's important is that they're gradually learning they can feel safe with trusted adults outside the home.

Communicates Their Needs

Whether through words, gestures or simple phrases, your child can let adults know when they need help, are hungry, thirsty or need the bathroom.

Shows Growing Independence

Simple things like washing hands with help, tidying away toys, feeding themselves or trying to put on their shoes are all encouraging signs.

What if my child isn't doing all of these yet?

That's perfectly okay.

Preschool isn't just for children who have already mastered these skills, it's where they develop them.

Learning to make friends, communicate, solve problems, follow routines and become more independent is exactly what preschool is designed to nurture. Every child grows at their own pace, and our teachers provide the support they need along the way.

Still Unsure?

The best way to know if TCLA is the right fit is to experience it for yourself.
